5 easy ways to improve your Wi-Fi speed

First Know your current Wifi speed

Use our internet speed test application to know your current wifi speed, then you’ll be able to track how effective these methods are.

Test your Internet Speed

As you proceed through each phase, compare the findings to the results of your initial speed test to serve as a benchmark.

How to improve your internet speed

1. Place your router in ideal location

Wireless routers signal can go only limited length, and also Wifi signal decrease when the distance between the router and the device increase.

Walls, floors, ceilings, furniture, appliances, and pretty much any other substantial physical object can disrupt or obstruct a wifi signal.

Due to these reasons placing your wireless router in the ideal location is one of the most effective methods you ca take.

The best place for your wireless router is in the central location and should be in centrally elevated position (do not place your router in the basement) the elevated height we recommend is 1-1.5 ft.

Make sure you Stay away from high-powered electrical appliances (like  microwave oven, TV, Tumble dryers and other electrical appliances) because they may cause interference to the WIFI signal.

2. Adjust your wireless router’s antennas

Antenna configuration slightly differ across different routers, but we’ll see the most common ones:

  • If you only need covers for one floor, position them all vertically outward.
  • If you need covers for more than one floor, position them all at 30 degrees some towards the right and some towards the left.

3.  Switch Wi-Fi frequency band to 5GHz

2.4 GHz and 5 GHz are the two radio frequency bands that most modern routers use but not all routers doesn’t support 5 GHz so if your router doesn’t support 5GHz skip this step (check if your wireless router support 5GHz in the manufacturer manual).

The coverage and speed that these bands offer are the main distinctions between the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. The 2.4GHz band provides coverage over a wider area, but it speed is slow compared to 5GHz. The 5GHz spectrum, in contrast, has less coverage but transmits data more quickly (higher speed).

So, if your preference is speed switch to 5GHz and if your preference is larger coverage switch to 2.4GHz.

4. Update your router’s firmware

The preloaded software on a router is called firmware. Each manufacturer of routers has a unique version of this software.

Router’s Firmware is similar to the operating systems that operate on your smartphone or personal computer, it manages all of the device’s internal operations.

Updating your Router’s Firmware will improve the performance of the router. Firmware upgrades include bug fixes, security and technological advancements that improve your Wi-Fi speed, coverage , …

So it’s better to update your Router’s Firmware when ever new version is available.

5. Change Your DNS Address on your Device

Domain Name System (DNS) is used to perform translations, such as Domain names (like www.google.com) to IP addresses (like 142.250.185.36).

Your wireless router is most likely set up by default to utilize the DNS server provided by your internet service provider (ISP), which might not provide the best performance.

So switching to the best performing DNS server will speed up your network performance. we highly recommend to use the google DNS server, the IP Adresses is 8.8.8.8 (Preferred DNS server) & 8.8.4.4 (Alternate DNS server).
